One of my (and @laurenlayneauthor’s) favorite things about working for ourselves is being excited to go to work. Sometimes it's scary. Sometimes it means prioritizing work over fun. But it's always rewarding. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Are you playing tonight!?

I took my first trip to Staten Island last week [I was lost]. I spent the entire ferry ride staring back at the city because my motto is, "carpe diem," Greek for "live in the past."
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Looking backward, savoring regrets—this is what philosophers and zen people have been urging us to do for as long as they've been urging.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But on the ferry ride back I was a changed man [Staten Island will do that to you.] I began looking forward. Granted, the city is a lot more attractive than Staten Island. And it was the place I’d just come from...so the allegory isn't holding water...but the point is this: even though we’re a week and a half into the New Year, I hope you’re still as excited for 2019. I hope you’re still excited for your resolutions, for your life changes, for big goals. Whatever it is, know I’m rooting for you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And if you’re not excited…do as the zen peoples do and look backward. Maybe your 2018 was great. Maybe it’ll be better than your 2019.
